It’s the little things that matter.

I’ll admit it.

I’m an HGTV junkie.

Whenever our family stays in a hotel, they know to immediately find me the HGTV channel.  #ParentingGoals

Simply put, I love a good makeover.

Shows that take a home, or B&B, or living space and get it ready for sale or rental are my favorites. You know, shows like:

Fixer Upper

Love It Or List It

Flip or Flop

Home Town

Good Bones

Property Brothers

Stay Here

And if you’ve never watched one of these shows, spoiler alert, here’s the show’s formula:

What amenities do the owners/buyers expect?

How does the space make them feel?

And the very critical question, is there enough closet space?

Said another way, how do you want to make the person feel?

That’s empathy… and it’s good business.

For example, when an owner thinks about renting their space out and actually asks:

What would make my guest stay successful?

What activities would they enjoy?

What restaurants would they like?

What would make them feel welcome?

The answer: Fluffy pillows and towels, obviously!

(And snacks, flowers, & crisp, clean sheets)

That’s when the owner makes a profit, and that’s when the buyer feels seen.

It’s a win, win.

This applies to both life and business.

These shows help us take a look at things from another person’s perspective. To see the situation from another person’s vantage point.

In other words, if you want to be successful, you need to consider the other person’s perspective.

And your point is...?

If you want people to care, you need to care about them.

  • This means you need to understand how you are showing up and making people feel.
  • This means having emotional intelligence.
  • This means understanding nonverbal communication.

And this means having your own version of fluffy towels and pillows and crisp, clean sheets so guests feel comfortable and cared for during their stay.

You feeling me?

P.S.

What’s your favorite way to make others feel seen?

I’d love to hear your perspective!
