Have you seen these a’door’able signson your neighbors front doors? There are two in my neighborhood and I’m always struck by their welcoming vibe.
Question.
Can something so simple really change our perceptions?
Answer.
If I'm knocking on someone's door for the first time, I say it sure does!
* Can I get an Amen from food delivery workers out there!*
Take a look at the examples below and notice how each door feels differently.
The color. The font. The style.
All of these seemingly insignificant things impact our perceptions.
The nonverbals add up and create a sense of who lives in the home. The cues say things like:
Friendly
Modern
Unique
Fun
Sophisticated
Traditional
Something as simple as writing the word "Hello" on a door impacts our first impression of the person(s) living inside.
Crazy but true.
Check out the picture below.
Which house seems the most like you?
Which house do you want to live in?
What message is the front door sending you?
Even houses have body language!
Which means you need to be thinking about all of the messages and cues you are sending out into the world.
What is your office saying about you?
Your home?
How about your Zoom background?
And your wardrobe?
Posture?
Vocal tone?
Feeling a bit nervous and self-conscious?
Don’t be.
Begin by doing a self-audit.
Ask yourself what messages you are sending out into the world.
Consider the clues have you gotten from others that indicate how you are perceived by others.
What compliments and comments do you typically receive?
Keep building your body language know-how and tiny tweak by tiny tweak you’ll get there.
I’ve got your back!
Your co-pilot (who has been on Pinterest waaayyyy too long looking at door decal options),

I love this, Kristin! You have just inspired a re-think in the presentation of my office. MY view is set up to focus my attention on the positive: a positive affirmation on a post-it fixed to the monitor, happy, smiling pictures of my grandnugget splash across the screensaver, picture frames with my beloveds all in view. All of this inspires my work day🌸 Nary a thought has been given to how welcoming the approach may be to the guests that have only just returned to our building. Will give this some consideration and make a “welcome” change☺️
