This tweet is giving me life.

“There is a petite, blonde 5yo in my yard with her hands on her hips, yelling at my 7- and 10-yo boys to BE AFRAID OF ME BECAUSE I AM A WOLF!!!! and I have decided this is the energy I am taking into the week”

Sometimes we need to channel our inner wolf.

Or Freddie Mercury.

Or Beyonce.

Or (insert favorite confident person).

We all have moments where a dose of confidence and charisma are must-haves.

Perhaps you are:

Giving a presentation

Meeting a person in a position of power

Pitching a project

Being interviewed

Networking

And a confidence cocktail would be nice.

Happily there are some body language tweaks you can do to Freddie Mercury things up!

Three quick tips.

1. Own Your Space

The science of claiming space is clear. The more area we take up, the more powerful we look and feel. Having an expansive stance and spreading our arms out makes us feel more confident

Be sure to stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, head up, hands held loosely at your sides, your torso open, hands kept visible, and shoulders down.

2. Take Confident Steps

The way you walk says a lot about you. Taking small, quick steps with your arms held at your sides indicates nervousness.

Take larger, more intentional steps to look more confident.  The Bio Motion Lab has shown how gender, weight, mood, and anxiety can all impact our gait. Check out their walking demo and see how these variables impact walking. Our nonverbals are on display when we are entering and exiting a room so be intentional in the manner you do so.

3. Professional Eye Gazing

The way you make eye contact can show your confidence level. Competent people make eye contact by looking at the other person’s eyes and then move up high on the forehead when they naturally break their gaze. This type of eye contact indicates confidence and being on an equal level.

Consider the tangible things that make you feel confident.

Is it a pair of shoes? Suit? Bold lipstick color?

Whatever it is... Wear it. Do it. Be it.

Obvi, channeling some of your favorite heroes and heroines can also help up your confidence levels. Whether they are a celebrity, friend, family member, or 5-year-old girl standing in your yard, follow their lead and power pose!

And, YES, I’m absolutely taking some wolf energy into my week!

How about you?

Your co-pilot (who wants to be BFF’s with the 5-year-old “Wolf Girl”!),

P. S.

I’d love to hear who YOU channel and what makes you feel confident!

Tell me! Who is your confidence hero/heroine? And what are the tangible things that give you a boost? I have a pair of pointy-toed boots (named “Boss Boots”) that always give me a lift.
