Our family was vacationing in Ontario and decided to check out Graffiti Alley and Kensington Market after a morning of biking. I was hot, tired, sweaty, and hangry as we walked past a child on a razor scooter zipping around on the sidewalk.
As I passed the child on the left, his mother said something like, “Let’s take break for a minute and let others pass by”.
I walked about 25 yards ahead before stopping to rest and chat with my family.
That’s when my 21-year-old son slyly smiled and said, “I think that was Pink who just went in the store behind us!”
He then went on to inform that that it was her son Jameson that was the kid on the scooter.
I was gobsmacked.
My husband wanted to go into the store to see her but at this point I knew I had blown it.
I hadn’t been observant and had literally walked a few feet away from Pink and not noticed.
Which makes me wonder how many other things I walked by and not noticed!
If my son hadn’t been there I would have been completely unaware of what I missed.
My son said he turned around to talk to us and did a double take when he noticed it was Pink. He’s pretty sure she saw him do it.
I’m sure she’s experienced it countless times!
And, yes, we immediately Googled Pink and sure enough she had played a concert in Toronto the night before and was headed for Ohio the next day.
For the rest of the afternoon I was on high alert for Pink sightings. But no luck.
How does this relate to body language?
Nonverbal cues are all around us and it’s our job to be on the lookout.
To be observant.
To notice the cues that are being sent and received.
Big opportunities can be missed when nonverbals are overlooked.
Try not to be like me and miss a big moment because you missed the cues.
And trust me, this missed opportunity to see Pink up close and personal will haunt me forever!
Your co-pilot (who absolutely admires Pink’s music, work ethic, and personal convictions),
P.S.
At least I got this picture of me in Graffiti Alley (my family thought there was a strong resemblance)about 30 minutes before walking past Pink.
